Tell your Republican Representative: Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP

Republicans in Congress have just passed a budget blueprint that puts Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs on the chopping block.

The blueprint gives Congress instructions to slash at least $1.5 trillion in spending in order to pay for massive tax breaks for billionaires like Elon Musk. And while Republicans are denying that they’ll slash Medicaid and SNAP, it would be impossible to make such deep cuts without gutting the essential programs that working families rely on.

They’re trying to avoid accountability because they know that their plan is unpopular. That’s why they’re using budget reconciliation – a wonky process that would allow them to pass legislation with only Republican votes –  to ram through these outrageous cuts. We can’t let them get away with it.

We need to get them on record refusing to protect vital programs. Democrats have introduced a bill, H.R. 2753, the Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act, which would prohibit funding cuts to either program via reconciliation. If Republicans really had no intentions of slashing Medicaid or SNAP, they would work with Democrats to pass this bill and protect these programs. And if they won’t support the bill, then their real intentions are clear.

Use this tool to send an email to your Republican representative now demanding they vote for the Hands Off Medicaid Act! (We will use your address information to identify your representative.)

The email to your Republican representative:

Dear Representative,

I am outraged that House Republicans are looking to cut Medicaid, SNAP, and other critical programs in order to give massive tax breaks to the rich.

Republicans are threatening to take food away from children and deny health care to those who need it most so that billionaires can get even richer. If you truly care about your constituents, you will support H.R. 2753, the Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act, to protect these essential programs from being slashed during reconciliation.

I want a reply from you letting me know where you stand on this bill and what you're prepared to do to protect these programs your constituents depend on.
